Weekend Warriors, Part 3

Well, it's been a whole year since we did any major work on our yard renovation, so we thought it was finally time to make some progress.

To refresh your memory, this is what it looked like before:

We put in a pond and waterfall, which empties into the riverbed. The pond is completely done, sans plants.

The water spills from the pond, then runs into the stream and under the bridge.

We ran out of large rocks, so we were unable to line the whole riverbed, but it does have its base layer of rock. The shape is much more defined now, and the water looks so soothing, now that it's flowing.

All in all, I am very pleased! I am extremely happy about how the pond turned out. The rock that the water spills off is one we took from the mountains on our last vacation, so it adds a personal touch. I can't wait to get some aquatic plants and ring the pond with plants!

Rejoicing and Grieving

On May 6th, my middle daughter Helen completed her sacramental right of passage by receiving her first Holy Communion. The liturgy was beautiful, but not as beautiful as Helen. My miniature bride was composed and proud, dressed in lacy white and a wide smile. I made her a pearl and crystal necklace for the occasion, one that I hope she will also wear for her wedding.

Three days later, on May 9th, I learned that Vera Lewis had died from a sudden heart attack. We were shocked and saddened. I will miss you dearly, Grandma.
